My advice:

Find all x, y intercepts, behaviour as x-> +- infinity, any poles - that's all you need to connect the dots and plot a coherent sketch to a complicated function in less than a minute

I think, these sketches were easier by miles that what's asked to sketch in MAT AND STEP....
