The biggest and most important thing about the Abrams tank, is that the crew is well protected and has a good chance of survival if the tank is destroyed. Ukrainian tank crews live to fight another day and gain valuable experience. You can have a super tank, with all the bells and whistles but if you don't have an experienced crew to operate it, it won't be worth much.

That's pretty crazy, Because that's not even America's newest Abrams, And it doesn't have the depleted uranium armor on it.

My step dad was in Desert Storm and forward deployed as a light scout asset. He and his driver were sitting under a rock outcrop when an Abrams approached from behind, running full speed up the back side of the rock. The tank used the outcrop as a ramp. It jumped a dozen feet past the end of the rock, landed with a thud, and showered dirt and rocks all over him and his driver. He said the gun never moved off point. The tank dropped over 6 feet from the outcrop to the ground below and never stopped moving. He was awfully glad that the beast was on our side.

Imagine calling yourself a "superpower" and then have to beg NORTH KOREA to send troops (that gets bombed to shit)

The Abrams is unstoppable, so they only have 12 left. - The Military Show.

May 2021 the USMC no longer use the M1A2 Abrams. As of Jan 18th 2025 Ukraine still haven't gotten the M1A1 Abrams from Australia. There are 2, 000 M1A2 Abrams sitting in Arizona that were decommissioned decade ago that can be sent to Ukraine.

Australia is sending the 50 they just swapped out for new tanks.

Abrams tanks are far from unstoppable since "Ukraine only has about 12 of them left." Sending only 31 tanks was ridiculous, there are thousands in storage.

The thing about us made equipment is that its has better survivability for it crew because armor is replaceable but personel is harder to replace

I think the take home message is that these tanks while having tremendous fire power are vulnerable to drones. Just another point. They mentioned fiber optic giving a clear video feed to the operator. That's a little bit of a muddied explanation. The reason for using fiber optics is that they are immune from radio jamming. and electronic countermeasures.

The Abram’s tank use in Ukraine has turned out as previously envisioned by U.S. planners, not well. The Abram’s is an element within the U.S. war fighting system. It is not an element to be flung into battle unsupported or in areas of contested airspace.

It ‘s difficult to say M1 armor is xyz because the models span decades. The Chobam armor is a composite of steel, ceramics, and depleted uranium. The latest version I think have explosive armor.
Having said all that, tank armor varies by location …. The heaviest at the front
As anti-tank weapons evolved, the smart missiles attacked the thinner spots. Now add drones that can be steered to the vulnerable areas like the engine.
Finally, everyone learned in WW2 that tanks must fight within the Combined Forces….. putting tanks out in the open terrain by themselves is high risk.
And so it goes.

1 expensive tank for 1 cheap bunker!?
Not a good trade!

I'm so proud that I was one of the few first team mechanics that built the first 20 Abrams M1 tanks. My job working for Chrysler Defense in the closed off back area of the Detroit Tank Plant was to build all the powerpacks (engine/transmission) assemblies and tested them before being installed in the hull assembly. What a learning experience for a 20 year old and then hearing that powerpack firing up in the test cell before moving to the hull for installation.

Can’t help but feel this was a huge L for Ukraine? It has 12 Abrams left and they’ve just wasted one of them to take out a couple North Korean soldiers?
They’ve been drawn out of position to take out a few riflemen and been spanked by drones as a result.
This is what the N Koreans were brought in to do….

The most important part of a tank is it's crew. Without it it is nothing.
Abrams protects its crew, unlike any T-series tanks. You can build a new tank, but it takes years to crew it.
Like a gun, it is only useful, if the people wielding knows how to use it.
