On this episode of Common Sense Soapbox, Bubble Man argues for “common sense” gun control to cut back gun violence. The only problem is, there’s no evidence to suggest his proposals would solve the issue.

Should've mentioned that not only gun crime in the UK decreased, but knife crime massively spiked.

Even when the police did finally arrive at the Uvalde school, they didn’t do anything. It took someone else with a gun they borrowed from a local barber to finally put an end to the shooting.

I love how they’re constantly in the state of superposition of “you don’t need a gun! That’s what law enforcement is for!” And “these cops are too militarized and need to be defunded!”

"Let's compromise. Only give up half your guns."
2 years later:
"Let's compromise. Only give up half your guns."
2 years later:
"Let's compromise. Only give up half your guns."
repeat as needed.

I remember an Army veteran once say "If someone really wants to kill somebody, they will find a way to do it. Gun, or no gun."

I see people saying "how can you expect a mere teacher to fight an attacker, when a trained policeman failed to" while completely missing the point, the police men failing IS exactly why teachers would need guns, and reliance on yourself is a surety, rather than hope to depend on others.

My hometown had, as Neo would say, "Guns. Lots of guns."
It also had only 30 police officers for a community of tens of thousands. We had 6 gun deaths in the 18 years I lived there, two self-defense, two homicides, and two self-inflicted. Of course, there was also a ton of hunting and a large veteran community, so proper and safe gun handling and ownership were usually taught by the age of 10.
I actually watched gangs try to move into the community only to find out that granny down the street was packing more heat than them. We had so few officers because there were so few shootings.
The nearest city started enacting gun control, and violent crime jumped.

"When seconds matter, the police is just minutes away"

All I ever needed to be persuaded away from my former anti-gun stance but that is over 10 years ago, I was way younger and way dumber back then.

The problem with "common sense" gun laws is the incremental gun ban. When you ban an item, the next gun or accessory becomes the new front line.

I have a hard time taking seriously any laws labeled as 'common sense' from the side that can't define what a woman is.

Good except for the whole "I'm rethinking my position!!!!"
The don't.
And never will.
It's dogma to them.

If gun laws got rid of gun crime, the most dangerous cities in America would be the safest. Just like how if increasing school finding increased student learning, we would have some of the smartest kids in the world.

"forcing innocent civilians to wait for police to defend them"... Very stinging after Uvalde, and very true

A few years back, someone tried to pull a mass shooting at a church in Texas and got domed in 3 seconds of entering the building.
He got domed in 3 seconds of entering the building because at least a quarter of the church goers were packing heat.
Compare that to another shooting a bit before that at 2 mosques in New Zealand that left 50 people dead. None of the Mosque goers were armed, but one did try to tackle the guy much to their credit, but was shot as well.

Common sense gun control is regular visits to the range so your aim and muscle memory allows you to put 5 rounds in a tight pattern on target.

"Owning a gun is literal child murder"
Huh, you don't say

I never understood gun control being a reasonable response to a mass shooting? Like what restrictions on *anything* might prevent one individual from obtaining one item illicitly, and using it for a crime?

This is one of the main and great points.
If you are going to commit crime, you won't get gun via official channels
It just causes good people to be unable to defed themselves while people breaking the laws won't be deterred by getting them illegally

I heard somewhere that Australia had to add a new category of crime, home invasions, after the gun ban
