Are dancers allowed to dance any piece in the ballet they choose or are there only certain accepted ones they can choose from?

these girls have very good control but...i feel like im watching the same 5-10 variations over and over again, with very few less common ones. and i know that ballet is very hard and they gave it their all, and it was really impressive, but i feel like they didn't put enough effort into acting. there were a lot of variations that acting is a large part of them but most of the girls just smiled. a smile is nice but they need to be more expressive than that
again, it was very nice, just a small piece of friendly criticism
