I remember being so disappointed at the site of the Bastille. I thought there would be a whole park or something, but all I found was a plaque. Oh well.

She has it all wrong, because "Bastille Day" does not celebrate the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, but the Fête de la Fédération in 1790 - which was indeed held on the first anniversary of the prison storming in 1789.


It was on July 14th, 1790 that Louis XVI swore an oath to uphold the constitution, thus putting an end to absolute monarchy in France.

The main issue I have is that the date was not taken for the Bastille but for the federation celebration... one year later and the idea of killing the king was not present at this time( it was way more complicated, the vote that decide the king's fate was more mixed than presented). It's a misconception pretty common but I was expecting better research, especially since a lot a foreigner learn by this video. It is not Bastille day!
