Zanzibar is the land of spices. The fragrant spices fill your senses with their pleasant aromas!
We spent a couple of hours at a spice plantation in Zanzibar and discovered some unique uses of certain spices. Did you know that nutmeg is an aphrodisiac for women? And that cinnamon is one for men?
There were other interesting facts that we discovered ...the clove trade in Zanzibar is monopolised by the government and no private plantation owners can sell their produce independently!
The spice plantation tour is best done from Stone Town. All hotels and travel agents organise the tour. The best rates are given by the tourism kiosk in the Old Fort at Stone Town (opposite Forodhani Gardens). The plantations are about 20 min away from Stone Town and the tour though the plantations takes about one hour.
