I'm one of the rare few to own a house under the age of 30 (thankfully not living in an area in New Zealand where rich Asian families have been buying up all the houses) and even getting to this point had a lot of things that had to fall in my favour.
-Be able to still live with my parents until my mid-20s.
-Working full time and being able to save a lot due to my rent being bugger-all.
-Having my sister do the exact same thing.
-Having parents who knew the property market and house buy process inside and out
-Going in on a mortgage with my sister, having split ownership of the property.

And that was just to be able to afford the down-payment. This isn't even me flexing, because if any of those bullet points fell out of place or we waited until after 2020 to buy a house, we'd be fucked. You're scarcely going to find folks who can do that of their own account without winning the lottery or inheriting a property. The system is fucked.

For a student like me it's certainly scary to even think that I'll never own a house and will constantly live at my parents'. Look, we have a good relationship in the family, but one eventually needs his own proper privacy and also just the fact that you've already pestered your parents enough for years and they need a break. We do have three properties under our ownership, which one might think could be inherited, but it's not like our government isn't also putting premium taxes on inheritables as well (yes, pay us again for what you already rightfully owned for decades or else you're a criminal).
As a side note regarding a very minor point in the video: as a spaniard, people who have some of the best gastronomy in the world and there's nothing we enjoy more than a good quality meal, the idea of replacing our dishes for insects is straight up sacrilegious.

It's an important topic to cover. The best solution is to work remotely earning in $ or £ and move somewhere where properties are cheap. You can get a decent starter house with a garden in rural Italy for $25k. And living in Europe means that you're ALWAYS within a 2 hour drive max from a big city, so you're good regardless of the spot you pick. Fuck spending $500k for a two room cage in NYC/Bay Area.

Forbidding companies from buying and renting property is quite a good idea. That way, the only profitable enterprise would be brokering and building - both to the benefit of homeowners.

I'd say, property tax should also increase by the amount and value of property owned, to deter property hogging

when my grandparents bought their house in 1962 it would’ve taken 3 years of my grandfather alone’s full salary to pay off the mortgage

i calculated how much i would have to make to buy the average house in my area, and it would take 15 full years of my salary to pay off a mortgage

to say that wages aren’t increasing with inflation is an understatement
