and if you hit it from the side, it collaps, this structure is only strong when compressed, but weak when bent

If I'm correct this is why they put metal wires in buildings

Its used in many applications, retaining walls glass and concrete. Its nothing new but it's pretty cool how it reinforces and stabilizes things that its incorporated into.

This is why trees are important because soils are held up together by massive underground root networks that interlock. They resist internal shear forces.

This is amazing physics. Thank you for sharing.
Oh, and to all the comments getting so pedantic about copyright ownership (and stealing), giving credit to someone elses knowledge or work while sharing it. Is not stealing. It is sharing useful knowledge and information while providing its source.
If no one ever shared anything of value, while giving credit, you would not have come across this valuable bit of info. Giving credit is not stealing. It is sharing useful information. This Youtuber invested your own time and effort into passing it on. Perspective People. Perspective.

Geogrid should be used in all retaining walls over three courses tall. We would set three layers of block, back fill with gravel, tamp down, apply geogrid, 3 more layers of block, rinse and repeat. Tallest wall I ever worked was over 40 courses tall and was reinforced every three courses until the final three courses where we put vertical conduit to be filled with concrete and railings for a fence. Hard, yet rewarding work when you were able to see the finished project.

In practice, geotextile woven & non woven usually used.
There are many method of "soil reinforcement" depending on soil type and its workability.
