I personally like to use a razor and sandpaper to make my pencils look like calligraphy. I will sharpen the tip with a bit more exposed than normal, and then I take the sandpaper and grind down to edges with a 45⁰ angled tip

I used pencil before I ever used a pen. I used 2B As it gives a nice downstroke if you use pressure
