Biden says he will ‘stand down’ and endorses Kamala Harris

Joe Biden has announced that he will “stand down” from the US presidential race and has endorsed Kamala Harris, the vice president, as his replacement.

The US president ended his re-election campaign on Sunday after fellow Democrats lost faith in his mental acuity and ability to beat Donald Trump.

Shortly after stepping aside, the 81-year-old offered his “full support and endorsement” to his running mate, Ms Harris, as the new Democratic nominee.

In a phone call with CNN minutes after Biden announced his exit from the 2024 race, former President Trump responded, “He goes down as the single worst president by far in the history of our country.”

Trump added that he believes Ms Harris will be easier to defeat than Mr Biden would have been.
