Sometimes, it is the firewall issue... Simply deleting the py files didnt help lots of people... I manually allowed the python application files (both python and pythonw) in windows firewall settings. Now idle is opening fine...

My fix, navigate to "Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Firewall\Allowed apps" click on change settings then click on allow another app. Then browse and add the python.exe & pythonw.exe files in it. Done... Now IDLE should open fine...

Disabling application control in my K7 antivirus firewall settings solved ny problem of opening idle. Hope this helps!!
