The extent of snow cover in Greece - January 26, 2023

The latest satellite data on the snow cover in our country on 26/1 shows that about 12% of the land area of Greece is covered with snow, which means that the percentage of snow cover approached the average of the period 2004-2022 for the last week of January .
The graph below shows on the left the spatial distribution of snow cover in white, and on the right the time series of satellite records this winter (red dashed line) and the corresponding daily average values (white line) calculated from the data of the period 2004-2022.
The latest forecast data show that the snow cover will remain at the same or even slightly higher levels, at least until the first week of February. The temperature will favor local snowfalls in the mountains of the mainland and Crete.
