How To Fix Latency Issues In FL Studio 20 In less Than 60 Seconds

This tutorial will show you how to fix latency Issues and problems related to latency in FL Studio 20 by adjusting the ASIO Buffer size (Audio buffer). Typical latency issues are recordings that are out of sync. This could be audio recordings or recorded midi that don't show up properly aligned on the FL Studio piano roll grid.
When recording in FL Studio, it's important to record with low latency to prevent issues and problems. The most common reason for latency issues in FL Studio is the ASIO buffer size. When recording, you need to make sure that the ASIO buffer is not too high. Higher ASIO Buffer is good if you are experiencing performance issues, like crackling sound, etc. It can help your CPU cope more easily, but this is not ideal for recording, so you might want to reduce the ASIO buffer before you start to record in FL Studio.
Also, make sure to use the correct ASIO driver in FL Studio. I recommend always using the one that comes with your sound card, because it will usually provide the lowest latency possible. However, if you need to also have system sounds simultaneously, I recommend using the FL Studio ASIO, which is a kind of hybrid ASIO driver. Most external audio interfaces provide ASIO drivers that allow you to also hear the system sound though.

i turn my buffer down as low as i can and its still too much. when i would use fl studio on mac this would never happen and id keep my buffer to 3-5ms and it was perfect. now its just too much and i cant record anything without it being far too distracting. im really having a hard time

I've said it on another one of your videos, but DUDE. I watched two other channels before this, both of which didn't work. Switching to FL Studio ASIO fixed the latency associated with my new headphones PERFECTLY. Your channel is the best, hands down! I will forever love how you explain each step so that people aren't confused on how to get to the next screen.

Short and straight to the point. This is why your vids are the best. Keep going!👍

Thank you so much. Initially I thought it was my computer that was to blame and was a little surprised since it isn't a low end system by any means. Your solution immediately resolved the latency issue.

how do i get it to 128 or lower?
the maximum for me is 256 and its too laggy to record and any other driver just makes it unable to hear

Another tip from me. Go to settings>project and change timebase (PPQ) from 96 to 24. It will reduce the ability to scroll into a audio file on timeline, but in situtation when you need less latency for particular action like recording midi, it should work. You can set it back to 96 after that. Cheers!

Any disadvantage to running the buffer at 256 all the time? or only have it this low when recording? Thanks Firewalk for all the help.

I have a 9900K, 16gb ram, GTX1080ti, and at 256 I still get almost a whole second of latency only when I record into Fl Studio. When I play normal notes with keyboard, there's no latency at all. There's no crackling either. I have extremely low CPU usage. It's just that everything is shifted over by like a second when I record into FL. I have a Scarlett 2i2, and I have the FOCUSRITE ASIO driver selected at 256.

Why is the lowest buffer length on FL Studio ASIO still 60+ms latency? I want to Live stream and record simultaneously. Do you have a fix? My interface as my device I have no issues with but unfortunately I can only use FL Studio ASIO to live stream

Mines not lagging, it's recording slightly ahead of time. Any idea what could be causing this? using focusrite scarlett with fl studio asio. buffer is on 512

The solution was perfect and precise. Thank you

Tip from me. Check if you have limiter on master track by default even in empty project. If you do, turn it off then. It saves me 2ms of latency less. Maybe it will work for too. Cheers!

Hello bro, I have a problem with the plugins, all the windows of the plugins used are displayed when starting fl studio, could you help me please? Also
I have a reading delay, the cursor is out of sync with the sound.
thank you ☺

Hey I have a problem. I use the Steinberg UR22 mk2 and chooses it in the audio settings as my device it’s called „Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO“. So I put the latency to 64 samples but I doesn’t fix it at all. I tried everything now. I don’t know what to do. Btw it worked for like 2 hours but then I had to go and saved the project und closed fl studio. Now I’m back and it doesn’t work anymore

Hey Firewalk, so i have my midi, and i would play a note on the keyboard, but the rate at which I’m hitting it isn’t the same (i could play 2 notes immediately and it would play like 1 note per bar) Is that related to latency? If so how do i fix it? I’m using Fl Studio 12

My audio glitches like shit when I switch my device from 'FL Studio ASIO' to 'Focusrite USB ASIO'... it sounds like a distorted stereo saw synth that switches from my left ear to my right ear faster and faster.
