I have an exam in Calc III today, and this exact type of problem is on the practice exam. My professor never taught us this or even mentioned equations for tangent planes, so I'm grateful that you were able to teach it in such an easy way to understand.

Your videos are going to be extremely helpful this year. I'm taking Calculus Three in a large class as a Freshman with a teacher who does not speak English well and I leave his lectures knowing nothing more that I did when I walked in. A straight line y=-x+4 cuts the parabola with equation y=16-x^2 at the points A and B.

a.Find the coordinates of A and B

b.Calculate the distance between the points A and B

c.Find the equation of the tangents at A and B, and hence determine where the tangents meet.

d.At the point where A and B meet, the line Q is perpendicular to the line B. find the equation of the line at Q

this might be silly but given an equation that is not in the form z= something, can we solve for say x or y if it is easier? and then whatever we did with z we do with x or y?
