@uabm it works for larger numbers, it would get a bit more complicated though

Wow! I am a kid on my moms account and watching your video really just was teaching me how to multiply 2 digit numbers...I showed it to my parents and they were so happy that I finally learnt how to multiply 2 digit numbers and I asked to give me some sums to solve it was just as simple... I also showed them how I did it... It was fantastic after watching your video.. Thank you patricJMT

Like if you agree!!!

Hey thank you a lot. I was having a hard time understanding this and it seem ridiculous because I'm in college. But I think that the boxes and arrow example helped me understand multiplication. The thing is I'm so used to using my calculator so with out it I'm so lost.

Not sure if it was already pointed out, but I found that if you're multiplying by an even 10x then you still need to carry the 1 (or 2, etc.). Example = 45 x 20. If you don't carry the 1 then you get 800, but the answer is 900.

@patrickJMT I absolutely love your videos! It's a tremendous help. This statement though, I find discouraging. I think that a lot of times not liking math just comes from overwhelming intimidation, which tutoring can certainly help to overcome. I think that you can be an effective teacher even if you don't have an innate love for math. Tutoring can help a person conquer their fears and learn to embrace the subject at hand. You help do that through your vids.

This was very enlightening, I appreciate it. I was taught not to skip steps, show all your work and I do that to this day, even taught it to my kid back when she was first learning multiplication. I’ve never been able to just solve a problem that simply, without showing all my work. To be shown that all you did was put two steps together to solve it faster…smh maaaan if someone would’ve showed me that just once I would’ve been much quicker at solving my math problems coming up. I feel cheated lol. Thanks again!!

@hkweli ha! sweet! hope she likes math.
i read an article that many girls (in usa at least) get put off by math, often times by an elementary school teacher who is math phobic (a shame that a teacher has the math fear). glad you are being proactive and showing her things yourself : )

Love your videos Pat. I am studying differential eq. and its been a while since I did math and your videos are a life saver. I have a mid term exam coming up on the Nov. 27th. I am still having problems with variation of parameters.

thing about these kinds of tricks is that they are maybe quicker, but more complex than the standard method which works regardless of how many numbers you use. so, if you don't use it a lot, you might forget it. But, this one is pretty simple and if you're doing a lot of math, all these kinds of tricks are worth learning.

I'm having a very difficult math test tomorrow, and I has always taken me so long time to multiply (I'm not sure why..), but you made this look so easy, so thanks a lot!

Really? This is the first time some of you have seen this before? I've always thought it was just a mental note thing to remember.

I guess I took my younger days for granted!

Thanks for doing this man. The generations to come will need this.
