[Gytis] Oh my, so many people literally look at just the title and start typing their comments 😅 We had the word “club” in the title, then for the purposes of character limitations I removed it, since ya know, I kinda clarify it in LITERALLY the first sentence 😀 But ok, the title is fixed if that helps lol

The Golden Era of Greek Club Basketball was in the 90's, when the Greek League was the Second Best League in the world after the NBA, and their club teams were all competing yearly for European Trophies with stacked teams that had both talented Greeks & Foreigners on them.

2007-2013 within 7 years, 5 euroleagues went to greece... what u talking about? that was the golden age. during that time, from top 10 euroleague players, 8 played in greece. for something similar to happen now, pana and oly need to win euroleagues untill 2029 and have players in the level of diamantidis, spanoulis and saras... so doubt its gonna happen....

The Greek teams gives the example of how to save Euroleague from NBA sh!t in Europe!! The basketball right now is back in Europe!! Competitive with big clubs, bringing superstar players in the rosters!! Few days ago I watch an NBA match and I feel proud how good the European Basketball is right now!! We have the best and most passionate league for sure!!

Olympiakos fan here: I of course root for my team for the Euroleague; if not my team then I hope is PAO or any Greek team whatsoever; if not any of them my only wish is that Barcelona and Real wont be getting any title the next 100-150 years. EDIT: in football too. Enough is F enough

Having the biggest spenders as owners certainly helps.
Obviously even with all the money they still made great coaching choices and player signings but still.

What I love is that the euroleague is competitive and diverse with good teams from all countries competing. Good competition brings everyone up to a higher level.

golden age of greek basketball were the 90s, where we had at least 5 teams ready to win any competition

For Greek teams maybe, for Greek Basketball? Compared to the 90's and 00's Greece is incredibly weak. Greek players back then were scary good. Now apart from Antetokounmpo there's a massive drop off.

AEK deserved a mention before Maroussi and Makedonikos. Won Saporta Cup against Kinder in 2000, runner-up Euroleague 1998 and they won the BCL in 2018.

Yes, we certainly are in a new golder era of greek clubs basketball. Panathinaikos signs his stars until 2028 so he obviously aims for multiple years of domination. Olympiakos can't stay behind (their rival is known) and of course you can't beat your opponent in words only, you have to follow in the "super team" building. Not to mention that there is a huge beef between the two clubs owners (as a Greek I know that) so don't expect one of them to slow down, or admit defeat! And if Panathinaikos explosion of budget becomes manageable, as it seems with the growth of income from tickets, merchandise etc, don't expect them to slow down on spending! By the way, with NBA in Europe's stepdoor, this increase in budgets comes in the right time for even bigger investments and plans for the future. So not only the two greek clubs run another "golden era" but the european basketball as a whole will follow (teams like Paris, Bayern, Monaco show that they are willing to follow, along old time greats like Real, Barcelona, Efes, Fener etc)
It actually seems like a golden age of Euroleague and European clubs basketball, led by the two greeks but with BIG and STONG company from many other clubs!
What an era for us to enjoy!

for 2 Greek clubs u mean, I watched both Olympiacos & Panathinaikos first game of the Greek league playoffs yesterday it was too easy for them both it’s a shame PAOK, Aris, AEK etc aren’t more competitive

If only they could do this even in football, but we are stuck with an incompetent owner there
