Seal Rescued From Tight Plastic Wrapping

A simple piece of plastic seems unlikely to cause so much damage to an animal as strong as a seal, but we have seen over and over again that even a piece of plastic shrink wrap like this one can harm and even kill. Somebody tossed it overboard and allowed the wind to carry it into the ocean, and from there it found its way to a seal. Without our intervention, the plastic would have become tighter and tighter due to the seal's growth, eventually cutting into him. First it would just be uncomfortable, but soon he would struggle to breathe and to hunt, and eventually his throat would be so squashed, fish would no longer be able to pass through. 🦭

i live far from any ocean but since I have started watching these videos no bag or container of any kind goes into my recycle bin unless every loop and/or corner has been sliced open. Thanks for educating us.

That little guy almost running into the net “Oops excuse me-wrong way “. They really are quite blind on land aren’t they?😁

The cheetah always gets his catch. When the team starts running, and Naude is wearing the camera, you can bet Denzel us coming into the picture ahead of everyone else. Lol, such a joy to watch you guys work as a team to do what you do together. God bless you all.

Thankfully the seal was uninjured by this mystery plastic. I wish people cared more about disposing of their rubbish properly, so it doesn't end up in the ocean, or anywhere else it can harm wildlife. Thanks OCN for always trying to raise awareness.🦭🙏😎

I shudder to think of the number of seals that perished before your organization came along. Once again, thank you for the work you do. It’s important for future generations to still be able to see wildlife. ❤️🇨🇦❤️

My morning ritual since the pandemic started: sip coffee and watching people on the other side of the planet do amazing work for creatures who have no other source of relief.
