Love all these ideas, especially that last metalsmithing one, which I never would have thought of. That really made your piece! I was just getting my leather materials out for the summer, so this is very timely! One of my favorite pieces I've made was a 2-strand (plain 4 or 5 mm leather) masculine bracelet that also repurposed a short left-over braided segment (5 mm x ~2" long). Using left-over lengths of thinner (probably 1 mm) leather, I 'silkwrapped' the ends of the braided section in place, onto the 2-strand bracelet, then secured with GS Hypo Cement under the wraps, to make sure they wouldn't come undone. I love the way it turned out, and love that I found a good use for those 'scraps'! This year, I recently got some large-hole bails, which will fit 5 mm braid or multi smaller leather strands, for bracelet or necklace. I just might (maybe??) enhance some of these bails with alcohol inks....and, P.S., thanks for that idea, too!
