Not sure that that is possible. As I recall it was a leak in a hose inside the suit. That vent isn't connected to a duct work or anything it's just fresh air ventilation to the helmet. I'll go back & look to make sure I'm right but That's how I remember it. Had it not went into the helmet, they may have had a lot more water leak into the suit before realizing what was going on. I do agree though, simpler is better. those suits are complicated enough the way it is.

"Traveled 370 km into space to drown inside a spacesuit" would have made an unforgettable obituary.

Lastly, there is already a vacuum in the suit, it's just a matter of designing a tiny little hose to prevent the 'naut's from drowning if this were to happen again. He seriously came quite close to drowning & I don't care how much they may down play that fact. It was a very serious near-miss. Had he further from the lock or in an emergency situation where he couldn't take the suit off, he may not be here today to recall what happened.

It says on other video. It says 5 liters of water. But in his interview just 3pounds.

Its like the story of pedro.
Pedro got a wound on his foot.
On other town says.
Pedro cant walk anymore.
When it comes to the 2nd town. Pedro doesnt have foot anymore.
And the 3rd town. Pedro is dead

Glad he's doing well. That could have caused some serious injury.

So, I'm wondering if maybe they should run a small vacuum line up behind that plastic headrest in case this ever happens again. This is part of learning about what can happen in space. Glad he's OK though! Could have been much worse had he been further from the airlock! It might also be good to put a h2o sensor in the helmet that turns a warning light on on the outside & in the 'nauts HUD. Sure wish I worked at NASA to be able to fix these things.

Or just make sure that water doesn't get into their air supply in the first place. No need to over complicate things.

i would shit my pants if that would happen to me

Yep, go back to the air lock asap & get the helmet off.... You obviously have failed to observe that this took everyone by surprise.... was not foreseen or planned for. Why else do you think it's getting so much coverage...lol

lol, I almost didn't respond to this. But I couldn't stop laughing so I feel I must say something. I don't know if you realize it or not, but you completely contradicted yourself. To make the suit better means adding more stuff. lol. Also, other than getting it to orbit, the weight of the suit doesn't matter as much as you'd think. In fact those suits already weight more than you'd want to carry more than a couple feet, IF you're hindered by Earth's gravity.

so how did he breathe?
ah well, if he died then does he really deserve better when these astronauts take part in keeping the reality of ET ships from us. And they do
