I honestly didn’t make the connection between the show and the LM so like I didn’t know the ending. And this song is so interesting bc I was like “wait he’s like shallow and like this relationship is so surface level and they’re not adding anything extra to deepen it.” So I kinda could feel the betrayal coming. I really like the writing of this song and how it fits into the narrative and foreshadows the whole betrothed plot

Here’s my thing with this song: I was listening to the soundtrack the other day and I actually processed the lyrics. They start out good and complimentary, but they quickly turn back-handed. I don’t think this is Daniel being genuine. A song or two before this, Daniel legitimately tells his father that he LOVES Ti Moune. He doesn’t want to leave her, but he isn’t strong enough to tell her that he has to. He can’t be like her and deny society’s rules. So, he tries to push her away subtly. He tries to make her think that he is not worth it. This man is so in love with Ti Moune that he would convince her that he is evil before he broke her heart.
