Long Range FPV RC Plane | 1Km Joytrainer mini

preview_player
Показать описание
This time I'm flying the Joytrainer mini with an FPV system and Ardupilot, using 5.8 Ghz video and reached 1Km. I could reach more but I'll be doing more flights for longer distances later.

1Km is not much but is the first step in the correct direction.

Just a tip... the antennas on your goggles were set to the *worst* possible positions. The omnidirectional should be pointed up, down or to the side -- *not* in the direction you are facing because there is a null-point directly off the end of that antenna. Your patch antenna should be facing towards the model so position it on your goggles so that you can easily turn your head to align it. For most people this means having it point lightly upwards by about 20-30 degrees (since we tend to fly with our heads down a little) and having the active face pointing flat ahead of you.

I remember when I hit my first 1km fpv on a gws slowstick. I was definitely nervous with each time going a little further. When I hit 28km years later on my minitalon I had come a long way. Still just as nerve racking watching wind speed, milliamp used, efficiency data, and link quality. Long range is exciting but also tests how well you prepared for the journey.

Man this guy makes amazing videos the video where he makes this plane is so well explained😀😀

Great stuff! You certainly took this little foamy plane way beyond what I thought it would do. Bravo!

That would be a dream come true to fly my long range RC powered gliders and sport trainer planes and my apprentice the bigger one that I made into long flight range fpv as well what a beautiful sight to see from a RC plane in fpv wow. I do it along the beaches and I fly off shore a mile onto Gulf of Mexico but no mountains where I live and also would love to fly over the rain forest and a jungle environment over the tree canopy's and through mountains

Your explanations are so easy to understand. Nice video

Nice one. I used to live near Kilkenny and flew a microlight in the area. Mount Leinster is worth a visit. I regularly flew around the black stairs mountains. If you ever want to go up for a flight, let me know. My buddy Henry owns my plane now.

Great video. Loved you include both ground and plane perspectives. Really helps to understand where you flew and how the plane was flying.

I believe Audropilot has OSD element that allows displaying of wind (or at least ground and airspeed). This will help you understand what wind(s) you are encountering at altitude. With hills wind can be more tricky as flows over and around in non-linear patterns.

Nice shots of Bull Island and congrats on making it a kilometre out and back in that wind. The wind there can be vicious at times. Just a suggestion; you should try a bigger plane with a slimmer profile, medium aspect ratio wing and a slower kv motor, turning a bigger propeller ( 930 kv motor with 11 inch propeller with 7 inch pitch ).Try using li-po/li-ion batteries in parallel for endurance. I fish the end of Bull Island regularly and often scout the strand with my homemade high-wing RC plane. The Volantex Ranger is an excellent platform for this kind of FPV with the right setup. Or ask John at Bearospace to lend you one of his beauties.😂

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. A video about the wiring and arduplane setup would be very much appreciated

I’m a high school science teacher who teaches an Aeronautics STEAM/STEM class. The students mostly build foam planes (and some students build drones). I’d like to learn about the pixhawk and ardupilot and try to do a project for the upcoming school year. We have lots of fields around our area and we would like to explore doing waypoint missions, mapping out the fields (3D imaging, measuring amounts of fertilizer, finding and removing fawns before the fields are mowed or plowed, etc). I would like to know what equipment is needed, how to put it together, setting it up, and implementing it. Thank you for the videos. My students and I have enjoyed your videos and have learned a lot from them. I had one group of students who liked your canard plane and made a small chuck globe set of it. Once tuned, it flew fine, but once they tried adding some small RC to it, they had similar issues.

3:31 seems like your patch antenna wasn't pointing the right direction. Also in 3:49 your cloverleaf antenna seems to be pointing null at the plane, so you might want to change your antenna placement for better range
