First time I ever heard this album was at Mr. Goodbar in Sydney, Australia in 1995. Immediately went up to the DJ to ask what he playing, he told me and the next day I went and copped the album. Caught him tour this album too, at the Metro. Missed out on seeing Massive Attack tour "Protection" as the shows sold out ASAP at the Metro (ditto for Jeff Buckley - again, sold out ASAP) and they played "Unfinished Sympathy" to boot. We were spoiled for choice in the 90s - so many good albums, singles and tours. Glad I lived the decade. <3

i strongly believe this is the best art piece made in music so far. it goes beyond all barriers art could face. a build up of different tones, multiplayers of sounds, repetitions, yet constant background. i mean... nothing expresses enough how mesmerising this is.

You sure you want to be with me?
I've nothing to give
Won't lie and say this loving's best
Whoa, leave us in emotional peace
Mmm, take a walk take a rest
And taste the rest

Don't wanna be on top of your list
Monopoly improperly kissed
We overcome in sixty seconds with the strength we have together
But for now, emotional ties they stay severed
And when there's trust there'll be treats
When we funk we'll hear beats

You and her, walking through the suburbs
No, not exactly lovers
You're a couple, oh, 'specially when your bodies double
Duplicate and then you wait
For the next Kuwait

My favorite album of 1995 and is still in my top 3 albums ever. I was very fortunate to see Tricky on this tour in Philadelphia. PS wrong album cover.

Practically, this was the first album that leveraged the genre "Trip Hop"
It was a genre (along with Nu Metal) that was on the rise at that time. In general, it portrayed the dark side of modernity, such as drug addictions, phobias, murders, depression, decay, trauma, poor family management and etc ...
It was a genre, which, through its melancholic ALWAYS melodies, and with a negative content as well, criticized the man's skepticism, as well as his negligible decisions or influences.

The first album of the genre was Massive Attack's Blue Lines.

But the first song of the same genre was "In / Flux by DJ Shadown.

However for me, the first album of this musical genre, was Recoil's Bloodline, which despite not being recognized as "Trip Hop", their musical styles are extremely similar ...
