Spend a day behind the scenes with Executive Chef Fariyal Abdullahi at New York's hottest seafood restaurant, Hav & Mar. “I’ve always wanted to create a space where people like me can just come in and focus on their craft. It's a seafood forward restaurant told through the lens of a lot of Ethiopian recipes where I could cook my food from my culture. It's a huge source of pride for me.”

I love how the prep team is supervised by an older spanish lady! Finally a higher end Resturant showing how a normal NYC kitchen is like.

“She did that like a pro!”

On camera compliment and a positive one. Can’t have an interview go better than that.

It's so rare to see such an enthusiastic executive chef these days. Love how they make use of the scraps to make an oil, very creative and innovative

I had the sincere pleasure of working with Chef Marcus Samuelsson at the Minneapolis location of Aquavit (closed 20 years ago) His nurturing management style was instrumental in making me the chef I am today. I can clearly see his style, influence, techniques and family style teambuilding in the eyes of the incredibly talented Chef Fariyal.

"It took a while for my mom to be proud of me" ... I instantly cried. Thank you for that. Many don't know that a fact. We all meet our greatness at different ages. And we have more than one great moments. For some they come later in life.

She grazed on over the “she sees me on tv so now she can brag about me” bit, but as an immigrant as well I felt that in my SPIRIT.

As a Swedish Ethiopian mulatto myself, I really appreciate this video. Marcus Samuelsson is kind of a patron saint of Ethiopians in Sweden, and it really warms my heart to see the influences being carried over by him and Chef Fariyal. Much respect to Bon Appetite for representing one of the smaller, but more unique cuisines out there
