Why we fast

Показать описание
Through fasting, we join Christ in the desert where he faced hunger and temptation. Our voluntary hunger unites us with his voluntary suffering and ultimate sacrifice on the Cross. Through fasting we surrender our desires to God’s divine will, and undergo a spiritual purification, leading us to a deeper communion with Christ. It is a humble acknowledgment of our dependence on God, an admission that true nourishment comes from His Word and His love. As we deny ourselves, let us remember those who involuntarily suffer daily. In our hunger, may we find empathy for the hungry, and in our sacrifice, may we find solidarity with the oppressed. As we fast, let us be sorrowful for our sins and for our broken world. Through our shared suffering, may we become vessels of Christ's love, bringing comfort to those in need.
In the name of Christ Crucified, may the hunger of the body be replaced by a hunger for righteousness, and may our fasting lead to a feast of grace and spiritual abundance.
Amen.
