I used to have a pet Ironworm Millipede, easily on of the coolest little critters from my childhood. Derek’s love for these animals is infectious, it brings a smile to my face!

Derek was my professor of an insect bio course last fall. I actually discovered Ant Lab when he played one of your videos during lecture.

Such a joy to see the excitement and love Dr. Hennen has for millipedes! Our understanding of the natural world is owed to people who took their passion for niche topics and ran with it.

I'm so excited about your millipede episode! My interest in millipedes is really just getting started. And I love to learn anything I can about them. Every morning at work, I'd find a millipede in the middle of the floor. I'd always pick them up and say it's your day off today and carry them back outside. That happened tons of times! I'm sure they were happy to be back outside. ☺️

it is really fascinating how appreciative some people are of species of living organisms and nature...its heart warming...the science community around nature is highly regarded by me...thank you for this material...it is truly an amazing world we live in with all the intricate organisms in an ecosystem...wonderful, how the Iron Worm has its array of brains that tells it how to move its legs...this is so cool!

Dr. Hennen has helped me identify and learn about a bunch of Millipedes that I’ve photographed…big thanks to you both for this great video.

Man I love Millipedes. Such chill creatures (at least the ones where I live). Spend a lot of time trying to get people not to kill them because they mistake them for Centipedes. Keep up the great content man, uploads are few but always amazing.

I am 72 and been fascinated by insects my whole life! When I was growing up my father always showed me insects that he found while working in the yard or walking in the woods. When I find a spider or other insect in my house I always gently capture them and release them outside! The only insects I kill are flies and yellow jackets…..I am allergic. But when I do kill them I look for a spider outside who I can give it too. I never went to college but think that maybe I was suppose to be an entomologist! My young grandson was petrified of spiders, etc but now when he comes to my house we search for insects to collect then release when he goes home……maybe he will be the entomologist! 🪲🪰🐜🐞

Used ti have a few millipede species as pets and i adored them. They mind their own business and stroll through leaf litter without really disturbing anyone. They dont have the fast jerky movement of a centipede but this sort of relaxed wave of legs. Just wonderful all around
