This song goes so well with the original story. If the original story was what the movie was I feel as if this would play at the end.

Just as the girls body began to disappear she looked at the kind prince, who she loved so much; the evil seawitch, that tricked her and put her beloved prince under a spell ; and as tears began to come to her eyes, sang in a shaky voice for she knew what was happening - her death - " When... can I be part.... of that.... wo-world?..." People say that on the date of that misfortune people can hear the broken heart of the girl sing they exact lyrics.

Driven insane by her love for Eric, and desperate to be with him, Ariel lures a human near the sea and pulls them in. She then saws off her victim's legs with a piece of scrap metal from her collection and uses a hook and some fishing line to sew them to her own body.

Such a terrific rendition of this song. You've inspired me to make some spooky art :)

This makes me imagine that Ariel goes up to the land still with fish legs. Eric spots her in front of his castle and he puts her in a freak show. Her stage name is "fish legs" and everyone including Eric goes to the show to laugh at her and throw things at her, tormenting her and having her regret trying to make Eric love her for who she is.😟

What I like to Imagine:

Ariel is still a mermaid, and one day she noticed Eric and a woman. Thought nothing of it at first, but the next day they had a baby with them. He had been married, and that was his wife. In a fit of rage, one day when Eric is close to the ocean, she drags him in, drowning him. “If I can’t have him, you can’t either.”

I imagine Ariel in Ursulas cove in a version of her story where neither Eric nor her father saved her. Just curled up in the darkness, crying around the rest of the poor unfortunate souls that made deals with Ursula. All alone, crying teardrops of crystals and pearls. Always surrounded by her own misery.
(In ancient mermaid folklore it was said mermaids and Sirens cried pearls and diamonds.)

I imagined Ariel. She's wandering in the sea. She's a spirit now cause Eric didn't save her in time. Now she dedicates her spirit life to watch over Eric from afar. That's so dramatic. Lesson learned. Don't love too much. 😔😔😔

I like how NO ONE mentions the true lore of the little mermaid. Ariel is made to feel like each step she takes is like she's walking on knives. If Prince Eric didn't return her love, she'd die of a broken heart and turn into seafoam

Ariel fell in love with Eric but he was a mermaid catcher, when he found out about Ariel he persuaded her into thinking that he loves her and until it was the right time he trapped her and cut her tail off while she bled to death this song was playing in the background

This makes me imagine like ariel loves eric so much she left everything behind but eric found his new and true love, leaving ariel crying and begging to get back her tail and old life under the sea

When Prince Eric fell in love with the other girl she was gonna turn into sea foam or she could turn back into a Mermaid by killing Prince Eric and putting his blood on her legs, she didn't want to kill him so she committed suicid
