I remember having a coworker who ate those veggies straws and kept saying they were healthy because they were made from vegetables. When I told him potatoes chips were made from vegetables so they were also veggie chips, he really didn’t like that and argued me down about it😂.

What I like about veggie straws is the fact that 1 serving is like 38 of them. Usually potato chips have <12 chips per serving and it’s so easy to inhale the serving. So I treat them like pretzels or popcorn, just another carby snack I can have a decent amount in volume and not feel as guilty about

I’m a food technologist that has worked on the pellets for these. The vegetable powders are only in there at 3% at the most (not even multiple 3%s in one straw, just 3% of one veggie type in each straw). One thing the veggie straws do have going for them is that they have a lower oil uptake than regular potato slices during the frying step. So it makes sense that they are lower calorie

The only problem I have with either of these snacks is how yummy they are and easy they are to overeat. They just taste so good that I end up eating so many of them and fill myself up on them instead of eating a more nutritious meal. Thats why I try to just pre portion my snacks and choose whichever one tastes the best to me

i have veggie straw ptsd because in middle school i dyed my hair black and green and then bleached it to go blonde and it looked HORRIBLE it turned into this light orange and light green color and we bleached it soooo many times it was not coming out i was really set on being blonde so by the time i was ready to give up i didn’t even wanna bother putting a new color on it. i was called veggie straws for YEARS (it was more like months before i dyed it again but i felt like years 😔)

I can't even taste the other veg in veggie straws type foods, so figured out pretty quick there wasn't much in them but potato.

There are chips made from other root vegetables with or without salt that are tasty, like Terra Chips. Good for some variety. They are usually thicker than potato chips and so may have a little more fiber per chip, but basically they are all root veggies with similar nutritional value.

The color being added and being more processed is exactly why I stay away from veggie straws. Great video.

My favorite "healthy" chips are snappea crisps! I find them equally as satisfying as potato chips, but i get a larger serving with more fiber and protein.

Totally agree. The only difference is that veggie straws and veggie chips are better for dipping than potato chips and I like the flavor better. No other reason to swap than that

Thank you! Also… in the diabetic world Quest Chips are seen as better for you than say an apple. Because you need more insulin for an apple. I call bologna

Thank you, both are chips and not something you want to eat regularly as a substitute for vegetables but both maybe a snack to try to increase energy when bored. My advice is get rest when you can as find new ways to think about normal work to make things more interesting. And when that doesn't work spend all of your free time not on vacation but learning about things that you are interested in so you can work toward a new career path.❤

There ate types of vegetable crisps which are actually crisped up vegetables, those are healthier than potato crisps.

If you want a high protein low carb chips option, quest has nacho cheese tortilla chips that are DELICIOUS. ~18g protein and ~4g carbs for 144cal per serve. They are little pricey though. $5.99aud at woolies and $2.99 at chemist warehouse

My chip alternatives are moon cheese (but I’m trying to eat less of these since I can easily overeat them) and pork rinds. I never grew up with pork rinds, probably because my mom says they’re ‘so gross’, but they just taste like crunchy bacon puffs basically. It’s not any more gross than eating meat I don’t think. I have them with my lunch, which is a chicken chaffle (shredded chicken and egg with cheese made in a waffle iron), dipped in a little sour cream and more chicken. I’m currently nursing a baby (4 months old), so I need lots of fats and protein!

They taught my son how to do this at his school so they could make better food choices. He has been telling me to just eat potato chips.

I get veggie straws as a treat for my kids because they like the shape and colors. They are definitely treated like any other chip in our house 😅
