Hospice leaders have told Sky News the country’s end of life care system is not fit for purpose and needs to be fixed urgently.

Their warning is supported by senior palliative care doctors who stress that any debate around assisted dying must address these failings or the country’s end of life care will continue to fail patients.

Death is the last great Taboo...and talking about this starts within. I am an EOL educator in the UK and My invitation to think differently is around, aiming to start the conversation.

Well..now that I am living through a close relative on palliative care.. CHC fully funded fast tracked placement in a care home.. at 98.5yrs.. total heart block and mild dementia.. heart rate plummeted and was not drinking or eating initially, potentially had a TIA.. as was off medication..not seeing anyone for hours.. left in bed instead of being taken to the day room.. not having a drink within reach.. not being allowed a saline drip as this would constitute extension of life. The system is broken..

I’m witnessing end of life care and it’s pointless. Fed through a tube, catheters, oxygen, morphine and more morphine. When he dies will he notice. ?
