No matter what your previous basketball reputation is, when you are being evaluated to make a team, you have to show that coaching staff everything you can do.

Whether it is 7th grade basketball tryouts or Team USA, you have to put all of your basketball gifts on display.

Coaches are simple-minded individuals.

They are neurotic, over-thinkers who stress out about every single detail.

It is your job as a player to neutralize any concern they have and to make them feel comfortable when you are on the floor.

Steve Kerr is a basketball coach who has lived a NBA life of privilege.

He was Michael Jordan’s teammate for 3 championships.

He was Tim Duncan’s teammate for 2 Championships.

He was the Phoenix Suns GM with no front office experience.

He coached Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant to 4 total championships with no coaching experience.

And for the 2024 Olympics, he coached Team USA.

Steve Kerr has no idea what it’s like to be undermanned in a situation when you are expected to win.

And Team USA was no different.

He wasn't going to re-invent the wheel. He was going to use the same strategy that got him to become the Team USA coach.

And Jayson Tatum was the sacrificial lamb.

Why?

I break it down in this video.

my reasoning for him sitting was his trend of trying to show how nice he is every time he gets the ball instead of being aggressive or using his adv in size/length; he disrupts flows of offense w/his type of shots....an he never consistently puts his shoulder down and gets busy.. in a tournament where more contact is allowed, rebounding offensively is much harder, and teams know how to score off easy buckets.. a guy who cant catch and shoot, wont post and wont put his shoulder down and attack is a liability. Even if you want to use him as a utility guy his ability to make quick reads and get the ball out his hand quickly isnt really there..imo.

great video....great work..and great job communicating the technical, strategical and personal reasons he didnt play and created room for doubt about his ability to play

Dorian did a great job explaining how Kerr saw this team through GSW lens . He turn this team into Steph and a Bunch of high level role players.

JT is a great, well-rounded player, but realistically Team USA had a better option for each skillset and situation. JT was a jack of all trades on a team full of masters.

Great vid. Tatum would be a totally different player if he made quicker decisions with the ball. He thinks too much and gets in his own way. He’s pretty much the same player he’s been since 2021. The stats are just better.

ESPN needs this type of breakdown. Instead of blaming Steve they should have watched the games

It looks like he was overwhelmed with the amount of talent and was trying to be a good teammate to his own detriment. All of his trying to defer led to indecisiveness and didn’t help that his jumper been broke for a couple months. Great breakdown!

Tatum is good, just not as good as people make him out to be.

Hey coach, first off I wanted to say you make great breakdowns, you've helped me understand the game of basketball much better. Now in the beginning of the video you said that D Book is a better shooter than Tatum, whereas with the stats it says that Tatum is a higher 3 point shooter with more shots attempted than D Book.

Is there something outside of the stat sheet that D Book does that makes him a better shooter?

You notice Steve Kerr had no problem making sure Curry gets plenty of minutes.

Coaches often have to make decisions not based on how you can play but how you're playing. Continuously reciting JT's resume of accomplishments is an inadequate argument for why he saw less court time on Team USA. My eyes saw clearly that he was out of sorts in every way and as alluded to in this video all of his attributes could be replicated by other players with those aptitudes. its not personal, it's 3 high level coaches doing their job. Undefeated 12/12 and Gold. Mission accomplished.

Why was people more mad that that than the finals mvp didn’t make the team

This is because he thinks while playing. He seems like a robot that’s programmed. Might be his Develoment.

Thanks for the video, never understood why people were upset about him not playing. Haliburton barely played and you could argue he was a better fit. Why would Tatum play when KD, Bron and Ant all have the ball in their hands, not to mention Tatum has been struggling with his jumper since the playoffs
