Microscope: The Tube That Changed the World

Humans have long known that glass bends light. However, it took us awhile to figure out that stacking lenses in a tube would open up a whole new world to science, finally allowing us a peek at the microscopic.

I would be interested in an episode surrounding anosmia (the lack of a sense of smell). It's a disability of which few people are aware, and there are many misconceptions about it, such as that anosmics are unable to taste.

True story; when I was a kid of about 10, I stole a microscope from school so I could look at the life from the local frog pond. My first foray into art, I would draw unknown little critters and then search the science category in the school library for bugs and identify them. The things people do to learn, eh?

I like to think of X-ray crystallography as a method that acts like a microscope. Except instead of lenses you've got to do all the math yourself.

I am in constant awe to the cyclic coevolution of science and technology, with technology making it possible for us to understand more things, and these more things then make it possible for us to make or refine our technology!  The microscope is a fantastic example of this!
