Roads have been brought to a standstill in north London after a major water main burst.
Flooding up to four-foot deep hit Islington this morning after a pipe sprung a leak under Hornsey Road.
Firefighters used a small dinghy to help families across the flooded street and were pictured carrying children through the water.
It comes amid warnings about water shortages across the capital and south of England.
A handful of water companies have already imposed hosepipe bans and more are expected to follow suit.
The government has urged water firms to take action ahead of a heatwave forecast for the week ahead.
The flood will add to the strain on water resources already at alarmingly low levels following weeks of extremely dry weather in the south east.
London Fire Brigade said 60 firefighters were sent to deal with the incident.
They confirmed a 36-inch water main burst, with flooding primarily impacting Hornsey Road and Tollington Road.
People are being asked to avoid the area and several roads are closed.
Crews from Holloway, Islington, Kentish Town, Stoke Newington and surrounding fire stations are all at the scene.
