The historical films of Jerrold Tarog are what we need most, an opportunity to learn about the painful truths of our past and to view our heroes as people who are caught in the most turbulent times. But what I appreciate most is there are many Filipino movie goers who want to learn and reflect of the history, who are for a long time hungry for substantial films like Goyo and General Luna. Romcoms are for people who want to enjoy the feels, to get caught in a moment of escapism and pleasure but historical films are for those who want to engage themselves in helping the nation move forward and are willing to take and apply the lessons in the past in order to make sense and address the problems of the present.
