Launched in 2023, Shake Hands is an animation studio in Kyoto, Japan. Its founders aimed to provide job training and improve confidence for people with autism, who usually struggle to cope in Japan’s often stressful work environment. Developmental disorders have historically not been taken seriously in Japan. But in recent years scientific studies have helped foster growing awareness about the conditions.

Another W for the neurodivergent community. The Otaku communities are likely to have several neurodivergent individuals in them, I hope this helps them get more recognition and solidarity.

I have ADHD, and was only diagnosed in my early 20's. My hiperfocus has actually helped me quite a lot in most my jobs. Of course I have my struggles like anyone else but I wouldn't change anything.

Im uninsured in the U.S. so I haven't been able to get a formal diagnosis, but I struggle at work because I have trouble with organization, the interpersonal pecking order and being assertive. I think this is a wonderful idea to have a workplace for people with ADHD & Autism, I hope it catches on and becomes more widespread.

As someone with Autism, this makes me feel very appreciated that there are job opportunities for us in the working field. I'm an anime/manga nerd and a fine art student so I want to put out my artistic passion into the world.

Makes me extremely happy that these people found a place for themselves where they are accepted and trained according to their needs! It's refreshing to see that work fulfilment is seen as important in this studio! Considering the stiff and rigorous work culture of Japan I mean.
They're doing amazing and I hope they are able continue to expand their initiative even more 😊❤❤

The topic of this video is interesting but the audio mix needs work. The background music is too loud relative to the speech and other sounds.

Well, people with Autism and ADHD can really shine in specific fields compared to "normal" people, so it can be a great benefit to the companies too, not just a virtuous endeavor.

The fact it being considered a personality thing as if that's a choice someone has. Some people are just extroverted and that's a personality trait. No one has control of that (normally)

This is fantastic! It's very well known how hellish the japanese work culture can be, so i'm SO GLAD they passed that law to recognize and support people with these learning disabilities!!!! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

Is it just me or does this seem like the bare minimum for a healthy work environment? Kinda sad that treating subordinates in the workplace with kindness and understanding is considered unusual.

...that others do not see
Better yet: that some people do not want to see.
