The Media Vs. The Players - 'Yasuke' Controversy Gets WORSE

The "Yasuke" Controversy (kicked off by Ubisoft) has gotten worse after an enraged media took issue with the companies failure to condemn the backlash in their preferred terms.

Insulting an entire nation, demeaning their own player base, and all of it because they are hyper fixated with fighting back against a very small subset of their audience who are blending in with a massive display of rightly articulated criticism.

The Media is once again showing itself as a short term anger machine that fails to consider the root of the issue, and the true reaosns why players are looking at Assassins Creed Shadows (and "Yasuke") with concern.

THE OTHER VIDEO: (Deep Dive on "Yasuke" and his "Historian" promoter)

I'm tired of being called a racist by racist people for not being racist.

Asian men rarely get the opportunity to be the main protagonist in Western media. Finally, when the first opportunity came for an Asian male to be the main protagonist in an AC game set in Japan, they yet again replace him with a non-Asian male. They justify the replacement by saying, “This time in Assassin’s Creed, we wanted to tell the story from a foreigner’s perspective.” They somehow always seem to find a way to replace the Asian male and justify it with reasons like wanting to tell the story from a foreigner’s perspective or due to artistic decisions. This same argument doesn’t hold when a game or movie is “white-washed.”

That guy accusing people of being racist and then immediately asserting that all of Japanese society is racist... That's the most ironic thing I've seen in a while

Curious how Ubisoft thinks having a hulking mythical black samurai slaughtering Japanese is respectful towards Japanese culture.

The entire thing summed up:
"Hey, I'm a white gamer. I would really love an AC game where I get to play as a Japanese person in Japan, and immerse myself in the history and culture of another country."
"You racist!"

Racism against Asians is why they're pushing Yasuke, their were thousands of Japanese Samurai that were more important and have amazing stories about them, using Yasuke is Racism against Japanese people, period.

Ubisoft big brains:
- Make an AC game set in Africa with an African protagonist ❌
- Make an AC game set in Japan with an Japanese protagonist ❌
- Make an AC game set in Japan with an African protagonist ✔

It's wild that they went this far with Yasuke. Dude has one historian basically writing fanfiction about him based on the fact he was alive around some notable Feudal Japanese people, and the Dev team at Ubisoft spent their entire research budget on copies of Lockley's toilet paper with print on it.

Seriously, people have been begging for a ninja Assassin's Creed and for them to make this instead is almost hilariously insulting to the customers

Personally I'm upset because "the message" is blatantly obvious, but instead of saying "yeah, we're doing it, deal with it" they choose to insult everyone's intelligence and act like it's "just an artistic choice", f 'em all

I hope Assassin's Creed: Wakanda's main protagonist will be a face scan of Ryan Gosling

I dont care if they call me racist anymore. I dont care if Yasuke was a real samurai or not. As a man with Asian blood I just do not want to play a game as a black man in Japan.

Yasuke being the main protagonist and being propped up as this "influential" figure that played major roles in Japanese history reminds me of that infamous "15 Inventions Created by Black Americans" video where they claimed a bunch of things were invented by African-Americans, the majority of which was exagerration or misidentification. What is it with people wanting to prop up African contributions to history in such a fake manner? Rhetorical, of course, I can make an educated guess as to why.

The word racist has been thrown around so much for so long now that it doesn't actually mean anything anymore.
