Although I know the original version by Stevie Wonder, this is the one I like the most . This song got me through a bad breakup through a significant other, though my cousin encouraged me to carry on....

The closest we ever got to an Aretha Franklin-Stevie Wonder collaboration unfolded in 1974, with “Until You Come Back To Me (That’s What I’m Gonna Do)” from Let Me In Your Life. Though the story actually began in 1965 when fifteen year old Stevie Wonder composed the song and recorded it two years later in 1967. His recording revolved around a poppy/R&B bossa nova groove reminiscent of Dionne Warwick’s “Walk On By.” For whatever reason, Stevie’s version remained unreleased until 1977’s anthology Looking Back. At some point along the line, Stevie offered the unreleased song to Aretha, who, as she often recalled, sent someone to pick it up and went to town with it. The rest, is history.

She told the story that Stevie Wonder called her late one night and said, "Ree, I've got a song for ya" and she said "I'll take it!" and he said "Send somebody down to get it." So perfect in every way. I wish she could have been with us forever.

No matter the lyrics, Aretha is the Queen. Love that voice. I was in Paris shortly after her death. There were tributes everywhere and her music as well. Vive Aretha,

I love this song to death. I'm 33 years old, that's the reason she is the queen of soul.

This is a timeless jam that showcases Aretha's smooth voice. She is the Queen of Soul, but her vocal gifts are so much more than that. There will never be another Aretha. Of course we can always play her classics as much as we wish.

The QUEEN OF SOUL she left no doubt she obtained that title throughout her career. Aretha was a Soul Queen she was the best and so natural! There is never going to be another like her and maybe there shouldn't be after all she was the Queen. RIP Lady Franklin you were one the best there ever was and ever will be God Bless You.

Had this tune in a 45rpm record I liked to hear 42 years ago.  It made me think about many things.  And her voice is as Great as ever, nice to hear after all these years.

It's my favorite by her. The reason why, most would probably think is a little crazy. The lyrics are on an elite level. Thank you Stevie. In my 50 yrs of living I've been up and down in believing in myself. To the point of almost losing myself. I always play this to myself. When I'm that low feeling. I'm gonna walk by myself. To prove my love is real. Sometimes you gotta walk by yourself to get back to a solid love for yourself. Music is healing especially when one can interpret in multiple ways.

Beautiful voice. Chuck Rainey’s superb bass lines make the song a gem. Session musicians rarely received credit for their contributions.
