Intracranial Atherosclerotic Disease (ICAD) | Cedars-Sinai

Показать описание
Cholesterol build up, called “plaque,” can occur in many arteries in the body, including the heart, the carotid arteries in the neck, the arteries in the legs and other locations.
When the cholesterol plaques begin to develop in the brain arteries, the resulting condition is called ICAD. Much like cholesterol blockages in the arteries to the heart can lead to heart attacks, cholesterol blockages in the brain can cause stroke.
Patients with ICAD may have recurrent stroke symptoms, so early treatment is important.
