I can certainly vouch for all of this! I use to go to school in Grosse Pointe and I was always the only black person in the village. Like they have a limit.

This is hilarious! You should do one on Detroit pawn shops or St. Clair Shores bars/nautical mile, or redford?! The last part was the cherry on top.

@robi2000 They are lame and there's a ton of wonderful cities in Michigan. If you ever come up, I highly recommend visiting upper Michigan. Sleeping Bear Dunes and staying in Traverse City. You have to go see Mackinaw Bridge also. Ann Arbor in the lower part is a very diverse city with tons of neat shops. I am partial to Kalamazoo too. <3

I miss pure Michigan Royal Oak. Some DB probably had it taken down. LOL! Anyone know where else you can see that one?

@shocknyc No, there is definitely a Saunders (again). It opened several years ago. The really depressing thing is that the three ice cream stores are within a two-block stretch.

@whitelion97 Well, Flint, Detroit, and other places that were once heavy in the automotive industry tended to see more black people moving in. But in response to blacks moving in, large groups of white people moved out of the larger cities. Thus, most urban areas in Michigan tend to be more black/diverse, and the suburbs tend to be more white.

As for Grosse Pointe, housing covenants stopped blacks from moving there for decades, but I'm glad to see that things have changed.
