"Okie" is a slang name for someone from Oklahoma, and Muskogee (population 40,000) is the 11th largest city in the state. The song was released in September 1969, and was one of the most famous songs of Merle Haggard's career.

If you really believe in freedom then you would not support the theme of this song.
Ya see we all get to enjoy freedom here in America. Looking down on how other Americans live and interact with their government would not be something freedom loving Americans would do. A real freedom loving American would mind their own business!
