Should You Get Your MSN or DNP?

So you've finally made the decision to become a nurse practitioner, but now you are trying to figure which program to attend.

As you begin to look for programs, you're trying to figure out if you should get your MSN or DNP. Both have their pros and cons, but you are still on the fence.

Well you are in luck, in this video, I go over 5 questions to ask yourself that will help you in determining if you should get your MSN or DNP.

So if I’m understanding correctly you don’t need your DNP if you don’t plan on teaching? And having your DNP wont get you a higher salary than MSN? ...I don’t want to teach. I just want to earn the most competitive income I can without burning out

My ultimate goal is to have my own practice but I do want that experience first so I feel the MSN would be okay, unless I can get a BSN to DNP with the option of getting the MSN along the way

For me I decided to do my MSN first. After 3 years of working full time as an FNP, I decided to go back to school to get my DNP. Honestly, im doing this as a personal goal and be a better prepared professional.

Great video! I’ve seen some schools that allow students to get their MSN/ DNP at the same time. After getting the MSN they let you sit for NP boards. What are your thoughts on those types of programs?
