We enjoyed a great day in Manila, Philippines. To start our day off, we visited the Manila Temple as a family. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed going inside. Across the street, we ate some yummy baked goods while we waited for mom to finish in the temple.
Afterwards, we went to the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Taguig, Metro Manila. Many people have recommended that we visit and we were sure glad we did. It was a special, peaceful, even a sacred experience for our family as we walked along the memorial in the center of all of the crosses symbolizing the many lives that were lost in WWII. As we read the names of the American and Filipino soldiers who lost their lives and whose remains were never found, we could feel the spirit and patriotism of these good men and women. We were reminded of my Uncle Bob who passed away recently who fought in WWII. He fought in the Philippines, which made this memorial that much more special. He was just about to invade Japan with his battalion, and the atomic bombs were dropped and the war ended.
We feel so grateful for all of the courageous men and women who have given their lives for our freedoms. We love the Filipino people and feel united with them. We believe these bonds were forged by our forefathers who fought a common enemy together side-by-side. No wonder we love these good people so much!
We wish we could have captured the beautiful cemetery, memorial, and museum, but we respected the request of the guards for us to not take any videos or pictures. We hope you can still feel the power of these great place and would highly recommend anyone to visit there someday.
After the cemetery, we enjoyed coming home and swimming in the pool in the middle of our condominiums. It was fun to see JoeJoe swim across the pool. We also had fun racing and holding our breaths across the pool. It turned out to be a great day!
