Fanatic Ray 12'6'' Pure 2017 review / Touring SUP

SUPboarder looks at the Fanatic Ray 12'6'' x 27.5'' in the Pure construction. The Ray is an incredibly versatile board that has been getting paddlers on the water, touring, racing and even downwinding since Fanatic first made the Ray in 2012/13. The new 2017 Rays have the same characteristics as the first Rays but are now available in 2 sizes 30'' and 27.5'' wide and both 12'6'' long. The smaller Ray offers an outstanding board for touring in all water conditions for the light to mid weight rider. But the Ray can be used for more than just touring... whether it's getting into racing or downwinding the 27'5'' Ray can do it all.

I have just picked up a 2015 Fanatic Ray Touring 11.00. The board is amazing, it just wants to have adventures. For the record, I'm new to this sport after getting a very secondhand Fanatic inflatable 9ft in late April.

Since getting the Ray on Sat I've tried the board in all conditions from strong coastal headwinds, some small surf and river work here in Falmouth. These boards are simply amazing.

Hi Reuben, do you think the narrower Ray is suitable for confident paddlers with a body weight of 95 kg? I am wondering why the recommendation is only up to 80 kg as it still has a volume of 264 liters.
