In the opening week of Minimalism: Space. Light. Object., Beijing-based TAO Dance Theater 陶身体剧场 presents Weight x 3, a trio of mesmerising, meditative dance pieces set to the music of American composer Steve Reich.

One of the most exciting contemporary dance companies that has taken the dance world by storm, TAO has earned worldwide acclaim with a repertoire of minimalist experiments exploring the repetition ritual and philosophy of movement. The company has performed at over 80 art festivals and events in more than 40 countries.

Biography

TAO Dance Theater was founded by Tao Ye, Duan Ni and Wang Hao in 2008. Over the last decade, TAO has toured to more than forty countries and a hundred arts festivals to international acclaim.

TAO is the first contemporary dance company from China invited to perform at Lincoln Center (US), Edinburgh International Festival (UK), Sydney Opera House (AU) and Théâtre de la Ville (page officielle) (France). It is also the first Chinese company invited to be artists-in-residence at American Dance Festival. Sadler's Wells (UK) has commissioned the company four years in a row for four performances in London.

TAO has performed at major performing arts venues that include Théâtre de la Ville (page officielle) in Paris, Julidans in Amsterdam, National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts in Ontario, Festival Madrid en Danza, 国家大剧院National Centre for the Performing Artsin China, Arts Centre Melbourne, Trafó House in Budapest, Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona, Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi, Maison de la Danse de Lyon, 臺中國家歌劇院（National Taichung Theater） and Cloud Gate 2 in Taiwan.

The company has been invited to perform at some of the biggest art and culture events, such as Spring Dance Festival at Sydney Opera House, Fall For Dance in New York, Dance Umbrella in London, Wiener Festwochen in Vienna, Helsinki Festival, Tel Aviv Dance at The Suzanne Dellal Centre for Dance and Theatre, Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts India Biennial, New Vision . My Vision . in Hong Kong, Novel Dance Series in Taipei and Singapore International Festival of Arts.
