Garmology: The rare Barbour X Norton & Sons Barra jacket

Back in 2013, Barbour did a design collaboration with the Savile Row tailor Norton & Sons owned by Patrick Grant. The collaboration consisted of a limited range of jackets and knitwear, all in a very rugged and purposeful style. This Barra jacket I look at today was one of the jackets and I walk through the details of this very unusual Barbour.

Interesting video! I owned that jacket for a while and loved the build quality and details but it didn't get much wear so I eventually sold it. Found a gent that had been seeking the same model and was happy to see it go to an enthusiast. Watching this has me missing it.

Great looking jacket, interesting observation on the strengthening at the cuff. Of the two Barbour jackets I have had the main criticism would be fraying, in particular on the edges of the bellows pockets when carrying a shoulder bag.... that and how surprisingly warm they can be!

The frame of this jacket looks like a short Barbour Arding, minus the wool collar insert and the YKK zip.

That’s really smart and subtlety different. Love the detailing on the pockets and wouldn’t look out of place with a Carhartt label somewhere. It a little like a pared-down Bushman.

I have one of these & the st kilda that came out alongside it. I much prefer the st kilda if i’m honest & am open to offers for the barra if anyone is interested 👍
