"I trust this fence. It's the school board I don't trust". That father has it pretty accurate. So many people should have been removed/fired and those school board members should have been removed.

I can't imagine how traumatized this generation of kids is gonna grow up. Genuinely scared of the very real possibility of school shooters. I was pretty scared when I was in high-school while the Virginia tech shooting happened but its seemed to get more and more common to an absurd degree

They get all the cameras, fences, & security equipment they want but as long as this country keeps selling military style weapons to any civilians with a clean record & heart beat, we will always be at risk for another tragedy like this.

Sure, this seems like a good start with defenses taken seriously. This problem won't end unless mentally ill or any stupid enough people are restricted from buying guns. Defend the school all you want but it will unfortunately happen again.

It’s like closing the barn door after the horses escaped

The changes are grossly insufficient to prevent another attack. The Texas House Committee released a 77 page report on what went wrong. Not even close to all the points have been addressed.
1. 33 TX DPS officers stationed, 3 new police officers hired: 376 officers surrounded the scene but stood by for over an hour. Police presence was not the problem. Problem was there was no clear orders and they prioritized saving themselves over taking out the gunman. The police chief pleaded ignorance that he was in charge of the response when he co-wrote the action plan saying he was. How is a proper action plan, chain of command, and accountability being applied?
2. 500 cameras *but* installation isn't finished, so they do not actually work. Useless to even talk about them.
3. Campus monitors to check doors and gates: A start, but the problem was staff had become complacent. They knew doors and gates were open and yet chose to do nothing or even prop them open themselves citing a shortage of keys. Teachers reported doors that were not locking properly yet administrators chose to ignore them. Many locks did not have the same master keys, requiring 50 keys to access all areas. Are they now giving teachers more keys and fixing all the locks?
4. The overhead intruder alarm system was ignored. Staff had phones turned off or ignored when an alert was sent to their smart phones. Some did not receive the alert due to a poor wireless signal. The principal failed to communicate the emergency through intercom. Where is the action plan? What is being done to upgrade the warning equipment?
5. The warning signs were everywhere from other students and employers that the gunman was deeply troubled. Patrons of the gun store where he bought his guns suspected him, but the owner chose to ignore all the signs. Not one person alerted authorities. There is no clear reporting channel for citizens and even then police need to actually act upon reports.
If each and every point in the report is addressed, an event like this *may* happen again. Not doing so will assure it. Perhaps then the school board can plead insanity in doing the same thing again and again while expecting a different result.

So glad Canadians don’t have to deal with this. But hey! They got a fence! And some of those weak cops that were to afriad to do anything. That should stop shooters!

Sending your kids to a jail isn't a sustainable solution.

I cant image how hard it is to send these young children back to school where they witnessed and lost family and friends. I hope everyone involved has the option to choose what is best for the well being of thier family. You are not alone, and we have not forgotten what you all went though. I am still praying for peace for you all.💜🙏

We all know how shooters can’t jump fences. Rip to those kids

Now we wait. It’s good that they put up these measures, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like it’s only a matter of time before it happens once again.

I would not be sending my kids back to that school

Also I don’t get how parents will allow their children to go back to that school district. They’re just testing their luck

As a Republican and proud NRA member, I am DELIGHTED at the reopening of target ranges.
Er, schools.

The funny thing is that they do all of this after the shooting, not before.

Ok, lets waste more money on cops...the school officer wasn't even there when it happend and when he got there he harassed a teacher and then his buddies hung out in a hallway listening to babies cry and die...but sure if the superintendent says it'll help...meanwhile did they give the teachers (who actually protected and served those kods that day), a pay raise or free didn't think so
