A survey of employers found that during 1993 employment costs rose 3.5 percent, where employment costs consist of salary costs and fringe-benefit costs. If salary costs rose 3 percent and fringe-benefit costs rose 5.5 percent during 1993, then fringe-benefit costs represented what percent of employment costs at the beginning of 1993 ?
(A) 16.5%
(B) 20%
(C) 35%
(D) 55%
(E) 65%
Start here: how do we know that this is a Mixtures question? There are two particular ways:
1) If you have a Percents question with two variables and only one equation, it creates a relative percent situation and you can treat that as a mixture.
2) Conversely, any question asking about relative percents is essentially a mixture question and you'll be able to place it within the Mixture framework.
About Private Tutoring: GMAT Preparation might take a while, but it can be quicker than you expect. I offer GMAT Tutoring online and in London. This can help you close the gap--no matter how insurmountable that gap might seem--between your current score and your target score.
GMAT Tutoring is offered either hourly a la carte or in ten-hour packages. Why ten hours? Over many years of tutoring GMAT, I have found ten to be an effective number of hours to get you studying well on your own. If you prefer to do more hours than that, we can discuss.
Even if you like to work on your own, sometimes a bit of guidance can help. In fact, the highest GMAT scorers tend to work very independently, but getting a bit of a nudge or tune-up in thinking helps with many of the trickiest GMAT questions.
Or perhaps it's just accountability... it always helps to have deadlines to get the work done in the first place. No judgment--even I suffer from that problem sometimes. Not to worry--there will be lots of homework!
