To properly manage the resources God has given us, we have to discuss something very prevalent in our society, perhaps even in our own homes—and that is what the Bible says about debt. We often think of debt as something that holds us back personally, but is it possible that it also holds us back spiritually? In this episode of Biblical Perspectives, Pastor Chad and Dr. Frank Hasel will challenge you to look at debt differently. Join us for episode five of this twelve-week series.

If you have questions about the discussion or want to share how something you’ve heard or read has blessed you, please leave a comment below. We enjoy reading your comments and will endeavor to respond quickly. Thank you for watching!

About the Biblical Perspectives Video Series:
When we set out to create this video series, it was to bring our audience into a conversation on relevant topics between a pastor and a theologian. However, instead of having them offer personal opinions, we challenged them instead to share what the Bible says about the topic. Seventh-day Adventists have a “high” view of scripture, holding it to be a revelation from God, written by men, but invaluable as a resource for learning to know God and His plan for our lives more fully.

Many our our members have a worldview that is molded by neoliberal capitalism. They have been blinded to systemic issues and only focus on individual responsibility. I would love to see a series of videos addressing the systemic issues that are causing the mass creation of debt.

You guys should do a socio-economic analysis for the reasons people are forced into debt. Individual issues compose a fraction of the reason for the majority of debts. The destruction of social safety nets and employers suppressing wages are primary reasons people are in debt. Individuals should be fiscally responsibility but our church is ignoring the main reason most people are in debt.
