Theory why bats fly away from you even when you are invisible: They don't actually see you, but detect you with echolocation

2:13 "According to the wiki, these bats are able to spawn on OPAQUE blocks"
... "A group of blocks that are defined by the game as being TRANSPARENT"
... "And GLASS is one of those blocks"

Glass is a Transparent block, one that light CAN pass through
OPAQUE blocks are blocks that light can't pass through (E.G. Stone)

Welcome to Minecraft Mythbusting, the series in which we prove the Wiki wrong :P

Hey X! I love this series and the work you put into it. I just wanted to say I think you've confused the meaning of opaque. Opaque in this instance specifically means not transparent. Opaque blocks include Stone, Bricks, etc. Glass and redstone blocks are considered transparent because a player doesn't suffocate when these blocks are put on their head. An easy mistake to make, keep up the brilliant work!

2 topics that i would like to know more are:
How far does lava and fire catches other blocks on fire, how can you block it?

And, now in 1.8 how does powered rails work? How far can they be so you can get the full speed, I looked for information online but I could only find information that was outdated.

Thanks!! Keep making these series, it's awesome

Hey X. Loving the return of the series. Here's a possible myth to test. If you use a looting sword to hit a ghast ball back at a ghast (killing it) do you get the looting effect?

You forgot to test the spawn rates on Halloween. On Halloween, bat spawning is changed.

Can bats interact with any mobs or blocks? Tripwire? Pressureplates? Collision with boats or minecarts?

You should've said "Welcome bat". (Ba dum tish)

The reason your results are different from the wiki is because they use the the level above the bats, 2 blocks from the ground, and you did only 1 block above the ground which is logic. Also bats can spawn in a heigher lightlevel during halloween(from the date on your pc). I think it is 7 or 6 the way you measure it.

xisumavoid I bet bats are like ghasts and spiders. They are 1x1x1 but need a 2x2x2 to spawn. That would explain the discrepancies between your tests and the wiki.

As always, a great show.

Thanks! I was wondering the other day how bats spawn. This video was very convenient!

The fact that bats can see players even when invisible is a really nice touch since that would be true in real life too since bats use sonar to see things and even if you were invisible you could still be found via echo-location.

Love this series man, I would request a myth but I actually have no clue other how to do the basics in minecraft xD

You should have said "hello everyone, and welcome BAT to another Minecraft mythbusting episode!"

5:34 "And they can spawn on the same type of mobs as hostile blocks." Not sure if done accidentally, or intentionally just for giggles.
