It only makes sense for strangers to split the bill, you don't know eachother, you dont love eachother, any chivalry would not be genuine but forced.

Couples that love eachother, naturally pay for eachother, its not expected, it just happens, spontaneous.

In Brazil 🇧🇷 a man should pay for everything. It's the culture here. If you don't pay don't expect a second date. And when i was flirting with an italian man he said he likes to take care about everything when it comes to money, always.

I think that in Italy the man often pays, but if you ask an Italian he thinks it is wrong and therefore he answers you, that they both try to pay🤣

In my personal experience, on the first date the most of Italian guys paid the bill, but from the second time on I always split the bill with all of them, and if sometimes they wanted to pay I let them do but the next time I paid for them.

Splitting the bill on a first date is just a north-Italy thing most of the time. Despite what north Italy women said in this video, they always complain about how north-Italy men act in this situation.
In general the stereotype that other countries has of italian people comes from south Italy.

If a guy really likes the girl and wishes to court her, then he should always pay. If the woman accepts his affection, she should buy him gifts, cook for him and make thoughtful gestures. Once in a while, she should tell him that she would like to go to a certain place and that it would be her treat. The girl that said she feels guilty is because she cannot reciprocate his romantic feelings but it would feel natural if she did.

I agree tho, the person who invites pay or if they both want to really be together they split. I think until today there was only like, 3 guys who paid for our first date and it made me feel very uncomfortable, but I’m European so 🤷‍♀️

Equality says split it.
You are 2 equal people, if you can't figure that out on a first date, there shouldn't be any future relationship. You'll have problems down the line.
Unless she pays and you agree to do all the housework, ALL of it, when you move in together. Not a very modern approach though.

Doesnt matter girl/guy/friend. The one who invites - pays - its international. I m surprised with response. When we invite people we take their time - we have to pay. Even if i m girl and invite a guy friend - i ll always pay. And vise versa
