switching and combining are not the same thing.

I would say that this video was about as useless as a potato, but that would be an insult to potatoes. At least they serve some purpose. In order to actually combine books from an old Kindle account to another account, I think your best bet would be to contact customer service.

I got a Japanese account first with the express purpose of accessing the Japanese store and then created a US account where I get a lot of free ebooks in English. It would be awesome, if I could simply switch between accounts without having to log out, losing my entire library temporarily and having to download everything again. I know it's not an option, but a girl can dream. For me this video was completely useless.

Sort of.
My understanding is that both your collections will NOT be available simultaneously on one Kindle. It is possible to read a book from either collection on one Kindle, BUT in order to do so, you need to resister the Kindle to the account that contains that book. So—if person A has books a, b, and c, and person B has books d, e and f—in this situation, if both people agree they want to read book a, they can do so by making sure the Kindle is registered to A's account. If they later decide to both read book f, they will need to de-register the Kindle from person A's account and then re-register it to person B's account. Cumbersome, but possible. You just need to agree on what book to read, and never, ever separate from the person who owns the books you want to read, since you will no longer have access to their books. That might be good therapy.
And if you are really sure you are meant for each other, buy all your next books on the same account.

What is it with this generation that says "bu-in" instead of button? or "mou-in" instead of mountain?

Sorry but I have yet to find two people who can read two different books on a kindle at the same time. Of course you both need a Kindle.
