You really cleared up some lingering uncertainty I had about these tool sets. For those of us out here who grew up without the luxury of a handy parent to teach these things, content like this is simply invaluable. Thank you!

And if you ever mangle the first couple threads of say a spark plug hole... there is whats usually called a back chaser. Think if it as a collapsible tap (or chaser). You stuff it in the hole, part of it turns and expands the tap, then you can turn it UP the hole from the underside... starting in the good threads, until it can hit the damaged ones and straightens them out.

Can save you from needing to pull a head!

Great video. I have always used taps and dies, never knew a chaser even existed.

I like your presenting style. Also that you share your own experience with the tools. There are too many youtubers who claim to offer some review but they don't work with the tools to obtain solid judgement of the pros and cons. Many product sellers are even more clueless about what they sell. Sorry I have to put this of my chest. You are great tough.

This was great, thanks. I was figuring I needed to use a tap, and someone mentioned use a chaser, which definitely seems like the right move. For a hitch on a Honda like your video. I'll try the chaser first and move to the tap if necessary, this being my first go and not wanting to blast through the existing metal.

I fell asleep watching too many other videos on tappin etc.
What I really wanted and found out about, thanks to you, was thread chasers...

Why heli coil if you don't have to..
I hope You Tube pays out for you as the info is helpful and succinct.

THANKS

Excellent video. Thanks!
Very informative and thorough
Just snapped off a thread chaser in my 09 Fontier trying to mount a trailer hitch. I may have started that hole a little crooked😬Only one more hole to go, so i may have to use a tap this time. 5 of 6 bolts should be plenty for a garden trailer...right??😄

I’ve got a GM 3.1L and the aluminum rocker arm threads are stripped out which is a common problem. Hopefully I’ll be able to repair them with a kit and I don’t have to do a heli coil or something like that

Great stuff! I bought a tap and die kit to fix a hole but I’ll try my best to not cross thread it.

Do you have any videos using these tools? Was wondering if there were best practices on working with them. Thanks

Excellent video. Thank you. I am just getting into the world of auto/motorcycle repair and notice that loctite leaves behind a quite a bit of residue and dirt on the internal threads. Have you done a video on cleaning internal and external threads? If not, what process do you use to clean internal threads? Thank you.

Hi Dan, I just finished welding captured nuts to my utility trailer frame so I can use 1/2 inch eyebolts as tie-down anchor points. Out of the four I installed, unfortunately I got a little weld in the thread of the last one. Please, should I use a 1/2 inch - 13 thread chaser or a 1/2 inch - 13 tap?

I have some water pump holes that are small. Maybe 6mm. I can't get the bolt to start in one. Will a thread chaser clean up threads where the starting area of the threads are damaged?

Nice vid! I got a stud that's asking more force to put on the lug nut than the others. The threads are still there just that they're all a bit rounded at the tip. Is using a thread chaser on a wheel stud safe? Won't it make it mechanically weaker? Or would you just replace the stud?

I need smaller sizes. .. #10 and #8 ...this set smallest is 1/4 . Anyone sell smaller chasers?

A very light coat of grease will help catch debrie when using chasers.
